Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Over the bank holiday weekend, I went and saw the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

I have heard the radio series, watched the 80s TV series own multiple copies of the books, and have puzzled at the game, and loved them all. Suffice to say that I have a good idea of how the Hitchhikers world looks and I am bitterly disappointed to say the film simply doesn’t cut the mustard.

Having said that the girlfriend had never heard, read, or seen anything to do with the other versions of Hitchhikers and she loved it.

For purists the story has clearly been ‘Disneyed’ and although all the earlier versions have been slightly different plot wise, I can’t believe that Douglas Adams would have changed it this much. They should have got Terry Gilliam to direct it.

Martin Freeman, (Tim from the Office), is a very good Arthur Dent, but I’m not sure how John Malkovich keeps getting parts in films? He is crap.

If you love the original, be ready to throw popcorn at the screen and complain that “he didn’t say that”, and “this is a travesty? oooh! That ship exploded. Cool!”

Summing up, it’s a good movie on its own, but as a film version of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, it’s a disappointment.
